I just grouted a 200 sqft kitchen floor with 12"x12" slate look-a-like tiles. I'm having a difficult time removing all of the grout out of the nooks in the tile. I've already gone over the entire floor with a wire brush and thought I had gotten it all out until it dried and I saw all the little spots that still had grout in them. I can't imaging spending another couple hours of scrubbing. The grout is about 6 hours old at this point. Is there any solution I can use on it now without hurting the grout I want to stay?

Let the grout completly cure....then diluted a quarter gallon of muratic acid to 4 gallons of water ...make sure to tape up anything that might get damaged...woodworck..paint...ect......put acid solution on with a broom purchased from the local dollar store(plastic not straw)..scrub as you put the acid on.. wait 10 minutes the rinse with lots of water..if therew isn't a floor drain around a shop vac and squegee works perfect....let dry over night if results aren't good , then repeat

Several companies make grout haze removers that are safer to use than muriatic acid. I would recommend starting with vinegar first and moving on to sulfamic acid or a grout haze remover... Aqua Mix makes one, StoneTech Pro makes one and there are several more. Using an acidic cleaner can weaken your grout, but you may have no choice.

Learn to live with it. Tell yourself it is a beautiful look. If there are indentations in the tile they are going to get grout in them.

Hi Joe, Welcome! :)

Please don't use muriatic acid! :bang:

In addition to what Karen said - If you prewet your grout joints, apply the vinegar & water (50/50), let sit on the tile for about five minutes, agitate with brush, flood rinse, let dry. Sample an area first to see if you get desired results, before doing the whole floor.

My son just did a similiar job using Prosoco's Detergent 600, diluted 10:1, on a black grout job and a tile similiar to what you describe. The main difference is the grout had cured. Complete success!

Thanks for the advice!

How long does it take for the grout to completely cure so that I can use the grout removal solutions?
