We have two stone fireplaces that are original to our 1950's home. When we purchased the home, both floors and ledges of the fireplaces were tiled with small brown tiles which did not match the large stones at all. Upon further investigation, we saw that the stones which make up the floors of the fireplaces have cracked in both fireplaces. The tile was an attempt to cover the cracks.
I'd like to try a solution that might look better than the tiles. One fireplace is woodburning... we never use it. The other was coverted to gas and we use it quite often. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
