We were told by a granite installer to use Windex with Vinegar to clean our countertops. Is this correct? Thanks

No. You should use a neutral stone cleaner made for daily use to clean your granite.

I run into a lot of people being misguided by their installers, fabricators, distributors, etc. :bang:

Hi there,

I don't see a problem with that advice under the following conditions.

1) The material is dense enough to not need an impregnating sealer.

2) The material does not have calcium carbonate in it.

3) The bottle from the manufacturer specifically mentions granite as an appropriate cleaning surface for the cleaner.

4) :D if I tell you it is OK.

My esteemed cohorts here seem to forget their own rules.

Generalities can not apply to stone fabrication, installation, maintenance, or restoration.

Hi Steve, Welcome aboard. :)

All the esteemed folks frequenting these parts know more than I do about stone and maintenance, but I learned a while back from one of the esteemed that vinegar (a mild acid) is a very poor cleaner to begin with. Its surface tension is very high. You would be better off using clean water. ;)
