I was wondering what sealer I should use for a bath room floor / shower walls? The marble I have is polished (meaning shinny finish, i think thats polished?). I read to use aquamix on this once is this correct or is there something better. I need something to coat seal I guess, I heard penetrating won't penetrate the polished marble.

John mentioned that I may not need to seal. He said that I could use aquamix 15 gold from home depot if I would like though.

He mentioned that I post this here for more help.

I will also have a slate coutertop on vanity under a vessel above countertop bowl. Any suggestions for a good sealer here?

Thanks
Bob

Hi Bob :)

If you have a polished marble, you shouldn't need to seal. However, you may want to seal the grout joints.

What kind of slate to you have?

Do you like it with the natural look or the wet look?

Aquamix, MbStone, Prosoco, & Stone Tech each have a line of sealers, cleaners, and enhancers. ;)

Here's my slate and marble. I tend to like the wet look for the slate. This slate is around my bar and was finished with a gloss finish sealer by custom building products (tileLab). I don't think that it holds the wet look to well though.
I'm guessing that my marble is polished if it has the shinny coating to it already. So polished marble won't need sealer unless I'm worried about grout lines?

Dear Bob:
You don't need any sealer. The sealer you're looking for - a topical sealer of sorts - just does not exist. The one that you mentioned is not certainly it: it's just a plain impregnator. And you're right: polished marble won't absorb any impregnator. Besides, your stone is travertine, and that stone is even denser than marble!
Unless you think that there is the likelihood of spilling coffee or cooking oil on your travertine floor, I wouldn't bother sealing the grout, either - not even with my outlandish impregnator! :) Geez ... this sealing-mania has really become some sort of religious cult!! :laugh2:
Concern yourself at learning how to maintain your travertine floor properly. It doesn't appear to me that you've got the right intelligence from the people who sold it to you!
Gimme a holler through the website listed below and, if you want, I'll be glad to e-shoot you my maintenance guidelines at no charge.
About your slate, black slate does not take any impregnator in, either. But for slate there are available topical urethane-like sealers. I don't make any of those. Keep in mind that if you will have lots of traffic on that floor, the application of a topical hard-shell sealer will become problematic when it'll begin to wear down. It is not that you can sand it off like they do with wood floors, if you know what I mean! :shades:
Ciao and good luck,
