I am about to install a tile floor on 2x10 joist with 12 ft span 16" o.c. Subfloor is 1 x 8's laid diagonally across the joist. I plan to install 1/2 BC pwood over subfloor and 1/4" backerboard on top of that. Here's my problem. The spacing between two of the joist is 22", why, I don't know, all the others are 16". I'm wondering if I need to install another joist so that the maximum spacing is no more that 16". Because of height going to thicker pwood is not an option. The tiles are 13 x 13.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome, Steve. :)

I'd sure wanna put another joist under there. If it's right up against the wall and a place that will never see any traffic, you might get by cheating on it, but sure nuff then somebody'd wanna move the piano over there. :)

I'd fix it.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Pretty much what I figured, Murphy's law. Just wanted to get confirmation before I go to the trouble.
