Have new kitchen countertops that look great but am having trouble with the grout. I had it done by a professional. The grout is much lighter than the chart color. We've put multiple coats of TileLab's Surface Guard Penetrating Sealer on it but the grout still absorbs everything - water, grease, etc. I'm afraid to use the countertops. Is there anything that will seal the grout? When I first washed it, if I rubbed on it hard, the grout softened. By this time, it had been installed almost a month. Does this have anything to do with sealing it?

sounds like an installation problem. not enough water in the mix. Call back the installer and have them regrout it. If you cantake your fingernail and scrape it out then you have a problem.

A far fetched fix would be to try and rehydrate the grout by soaking it with water and covering it with plastic so it will not dry out, adding water to it ever so often and keeping it covered for 24 hours or more, then let it dry out. If this does not work (and chances are it will not) then have the installer regrout it. His problem not yours.

Then get yourself a better sealer. Try www.stonetechpro.com and get the Impregnator Pro if you can.

Good luck.

Thanks for your answer. One other question, since I have the TileLab product on the tile, can I just use the Stonetech product or is there some way I need to try to remove the sealer that is there?

Hi Unregistered, Welcome! :)

If the tiles are glazed, there shouldn't be any problem.

How about registering, and sharing a 1st name with us? ;)
