Mauricio - hoping you're around today...

I have a marble mosaic I am going to start work on - I happen to have about 6 sq.ft of tumbled on netting - some of it isn't on netting and I would need to take all of it off. I am afraid to just dump it in water to get the glue off - well, I thought I'd ask first.

Is that okay? that's my standard operating procedure for glass mosaics - and yes, I tOOtally understand marble is a different animal all together. Thought I'd ask an expert....

~~~~~~ by the way - a little bird told me that today is your birthday. Happy Birthday - you may not be around the boards today if you're having the kind of birthday you should be ;)
Shouldnt need to soak it smee, it should tear off fairly easy.
Dear Linda:
Jeff's right. But even if you soak it, water never damaged marble!
On a personal note, thank you for your greetings! (We celebrated last Sunday, so I am around today.) :)
It's not my birthday, however. It's the 39th anniversary of my 21st brithday!! :D :D
Hey, gettin' old is the only way I know not to die young!! ;) :shades:
Ciao,
Maurizio
thanks guys. Glad to hear Mauricio you celebrated well. sounds to me like you pretty much celebrate every day - life, that is, no matter what 'anniversary' it is....buona fortuna ;)
about the marble - It does come off really easy - believe me, i've got little bits of marble all over the place....
My only issue was that if I am Re - glueing it to netting - won't there be a glue build up that will interfere with adhesion?
this is so with Glass mosaic pieces - just checking in on this.
Ciao
Hi Linda :)
If the mosaic is in place (wall, floor, etc.), that won't matter. You will just need to prep the surface to allow for your final thickness.
How are you reattaching?
Is this vertical or horizontal?
You mentioned reglue to netting. Is this project going to be reinstalled in a different location that requires the use of netting?
hey John -
I am building this mosaic from scratch - I happen to have some marble that's attached to netting. I will be building it on netting in my shop in 3 pieces and yes, transporting for installation.
In the case of glass mosaic - I often get them netted or paper faced and they need to be cleaned before remounting them. sometimes the glue is applied heavily and you can't see that until they are emmersed. I am concerned about not cleaning the marble before RE - glueing it.
So, I'm just curious if a 24or more hour soaking in hot soapy water is a bad thing?
No. Just rinse thoroughly.
