Drove into the country this afternoon to check on a shower installation. This is the time of year when the roadways and fields are festooned with wild flowers. In the picture are blue bonnets (the state flower), Indian Paint Brush and evening primrose. The primrose is my favorite. I'm posting this for all the people who think Texas is an arid desert. :)

It is......
you drove into Arkansas :D
Seriously lovely John. We get that for maybe 10 days each year in Q8, enough to make your heart stop.
I am hugely impressed with the size of your back yard however:D :yeah:

This is actually part of the J bar B (J-B) Ranch, which stretches from the Rio Poquito to about the halfway mark to Austin. This spot is about 60 miles due west of the ranch house here at the base of Mt. Houston. ;)

So plenty of space for a new HD then? :D
Yep, wildflower season is a thing to behold in this part of the country. The medians of the interstate highway system are showplaces in many parts of the state. The seeding program was the brainchild of ol' President LBJ's wife Lady Byrd Johnson, as I recall. No taxpayer money spent on that, of course. But the variety and quantity of wildflowers all about South Texas is tough to match.
Places like I imagine Q8 to be, can be, as Jeremy so aptly puts it, heart stopping after a rain this time of year. It's a difficult phenomenon to describe to people who've never witnessed it. A piece of desert that may not have seen a drop of rain for months (or even years) will absolutely explode with color only a day after the first rain. If you're patient, you can actually watch some of those plants grow. A week later it can be just brown desert again and people passing through would never guess what it had looked like just a few days ago. Momma Nature has a special touch for the desert areas. :)

Got to looking at my picture and noticed there are no bluebonnets in it. Here they are looking in the other direction. :)

Beautiful John. I was in Austin a couple weeks ago, and loved the flowers along the way. It's now pretty out here in Oklahoma.
Did somebody say blue bonnets?

That's called a Pink Bow Davy, and it looks very pretty on her. :p
:D Yeah, Someone said it's against the law to pick the blue bonnets but I had a hard time calling the law on Sarah.;) Those pichers were taken in Plano TX.
