Well, it looks like it finally happened! The largemouth bass record that's stood since the 30's has been broken!! The new record, caught in Northern California, is 23 pounds, 9 ounces! Here's the link to the article:

Yeah, the GW Bridge in New York is up for sale again. The current owner doesn't like the design. He needs to unload it quickly. He's taken an option on the Whitestone Bridge.

So did the fish throw the world record Ass back after the picture was taken?.

OK fisherfolk, the Devine M wants to buy a fishing rod for shore casting, I have no idea what to buy. Kit and tackle suggestions please. And I know the suggestion came April 1 but she is serious.

Do they still make those Snoopy rods? :D

What kind of fishing you lookin to do? Live bait? lures? Targeting any particular fish?

My vote would be for Shimano equipment. For shorecasting where? Ocean, sea, river, lake ??

I could give you some thoughts for freshwater but salt water would require someone familiar with which models would suit you or her best.
Shimano equipment for sure though. It just doesnt get any better Quality and performance on a par with Felker :D

Salt water. Casting either from atop a breakwater or the beach, fish bits or tiddlers for bait, lesser spotted limpet lipped mud spragglers being the target. (See I really know my fish, impressive huh?). Shimano it is. Just how easy is it to mess up a multiplier reel anyway? :D

And just how far do you think this argument got?

"OK so you want a fishing rod. Done. Of course we'll need a boat, nothing fancy, 35-38 feet should do it."

Response:

I've a friend that is a professional fisherman, and he dreams about catching a record weight bass. He has it planned this way.

Store the fish so it can't throw-up it's stomach contents.

Lock-up all of his gear so no one can see what he used, and admit to no one what he used.

Regardless of what gear he was using, the highest endorsement fee would determine what he claimed to be using when he spoke to reporters.

I'm not here to argue ethics, but that's when I realized how much money was spent on bass fishing.

I think I've heard of freezing some fish with winning potential for future contests.

Mike-- the money is definitely there. You can bet there'll be multiple endorsements for whomever DOES break the record. Manufacturers for the line, the lure, the rod, the reel, even the boat, trolling motor, etc. will ALL be glad to endorse the guy. Not to mention guest appearances on saturday morning fishing shows, the Classic, FLW, etc. . Whoever catches that new record, will be set for life. Hell, there are even "rewards" for people who break STATE records in the way of endorsements. Someone who breaks a record that's stood for over 70 years will definitely cause a stir.

Goldanged if I can find any Shimano Rods. Found one single piece 6' boat rod. Really pretty for $100, useless for our purposes, but nice none the less. Will keep looking. On-line purchase perhaps?
