I had to tweak the guts for some reason. Just couldn't leave things alone.
NOW, on this forum I have lost all the background detail and the graphics never load, just a bunch of empty boxes where all the fancy stuff used to be. No colors no nothing.
What did I do and how do I undo it?
Mmmmmm. No pictures could be: Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, scroll down to Multi Media and see if Show Pictures is checked or no.
But even without that I still have color. May not be the right direction at all.
Hey, is this the blind leading the blind, or what?

Bud,
I'm no expert, but my expert often has me re-load programs right over the top of the old ones. Maybe you need to do that with Internet Explorer. I really don't know.
Quit fiddling with stuff. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, etc.

"Quit fiddling with stuff"!
Your talkin' to the wrong guy John. Fiddle is my middle name.
Geeez, Bud, I hate to hafta alla time correct your grammar/spelling! Herownself is one word! Thought everbody knowd that. :D
Bud make sure to REBOOT...j/k
Do what cx says and then hit reload to clear the cached page.
That is assumming that you were messing with the IE guts.

OK OK "REBOOT" I guess I deserved that.
I HAVE REBOOTED THIS SON OF A BITCH ABOUT TWENTY-SEVEN TIMES
I played with a few thingys and have all my color back now, all that is missing now is the shaded backgrounds, their colors, and the lines. I have no lines anywhere.
........and it's big, why is everything so damned big?
The fonts are "BIG", the pages are "BIG", it's all just "BIG".
good heavens thats just awful.
sounds like a browser problem I would guess.
Probably quicker if you
Re-install IE and make sure to swap the favorites folder to save the bookmarks..If you don't have it then download it.
or
Go back into the guts and keep playing around and try to hit any default buttons you find.
It's been so long since I had IE I really can't help you maybe someone else can walk you through it better.

I still think it's easier to just reload the browser. Go to the Microsoft download area. Bite the bullet, buddy.

Seems like a good time to try out another browser altogether....

When you hit your start button (maybe that's not the right term, but the same place you go to shut down, pick a program, etc..) doesn't a Windows Update show up in the menu? That's where I go for "tweaking" Windows.

Bud, did you ever fix your machine? (...inquiring minds want to know.....)

Yeah, Bud, have you returned to living color yet? I accidently toggled between document and user modes yesterday, and the on-screen differences were close to what you described...forgot about it until Laurie posted here.

Where do you toggle that, Cami? It was just sounding to me like his machine was loading in safe mode, but I'd guess that wasn't it, because he is still posting successfully.

Laurie, I use Opera, so that's an option on my main screen. It's a little disconcerting when you didn't mean to do that!

"Toggle toggle toggle, now there's a familar word. Only the word is familiar not the meaning. What the hell does that mean? Toggle?
I remember now (you've jarred my memory) there was a "toggle switch" showed up somewhere in a tool bar when all this took place. I don't see it now and don't know how to find it. What's that all about?
I have my color back but only by messin' around, don't know what I did.
I still have no lines or screened (halftone) backgrounds anywhere on any of the sites I frequent so I've still got something to click or check or uncheck or turn on or turn off or blow to hell with my shotgun.

http://www.smilies-world.de/Smilies/Smilies_klein/Donnerwolke%2018.gif Methinks "toggle switch" sounds redundant. Don't we have an electrician on the board? Anyhoo, I'd check the user/document mode in your browser, just 'cause nothing else has helped so far....
Ms. Cami:
Toggle Switch is not redundant. There are lots and lots of kinds of switches (electrical and otherwise), of which a toggle style in just one. Not to mention toggles what ain't switches.
Also, I looked at my Start menu and sure 'nuff there is a Windows Update item on the list, which thing I have never noticed or tried to use. Soooo, of course, I clicked upon it and it gave me a page with a big, red notice "Cannot Display Page". I didn't find that very helpful, despite the whole list of reasons under the notice telling me all of the many possible causes of the notice.
Ain't this stuff fun? :D

So I'm no electrical whiz..it's time for the big fix...download a new browser...go to Add/remove programs...

Many Web pages have style sheets. They tell your browser how to display the page. Maybe you inadvertantly told your browser to ignore these instructions.
On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options. On the General tab, click Accessibility.
Change the settings as needed.
Make sure everything is unchecked under format. That should return you to normal.
Bud Cline

Under the general tab there are only four options: 3/1, none of which are checked.
I definitely caused whatever the problem is because I was in there screwin' around when it happened.
Thanks Ken, any other ideas?
