View Full Version : Cabinet stain on new grout

It seems like the cabinet installers were staining a section (badly, I might add) and smeatred the stain over six of our newly installed tiles and antique white grout. HD said someone would put something nasty on it to clean it. Yeah, right! Do we/they have to yank out the stained grout? And, what's the best sealer on porcelean tile grout? Thank you.

Was the grout sealed before the staining occurred?
I like Aquamix sealer but it's no good if it wasn't on when the "accident" occurred. I'm pretty sure the HD guy was talking about acid to remove the stain. However, if the area is small, I would dig out the "stained" grout and then re-grout.
I would also suggest a colorant but it may have a hard time over a dark stain - I can't say for sure

Welcome, Nancita. :)
I'm going to move us to the restoration board. I'll leave a marker and you'll find it. :)
Acid won't remove it.
I don't think anything will completely remove it from the white grout. We do have pros in the field, though. Hang tight.

Jason Hello,
Thank you for your reply. Negative on the sealer being on before the accident. We thought of pulling out the bad spots and re-grouting. But, once that's all done, what sealer for the grout?

That's a good plan, a sure way to get all the discoloration out.
Tile Your World Stone Armor is the perfect sealer for you. ;)
