More sealing questions

Folks,

I've read with great interest many threads about this topic but need some clarification. Just had Lady's Dream granite installed today. It's beautiful!!

The fabricator said that he used a solvent based sealer and that I should repeat in a few days and again in a few weeks. Based upon my reading of the threads may I ask:

1) Must I use the same solvent based sealer as the installer?
2) If not, can you recommend some brands. (I stopped in 2 granite shops today and they only had water based sealers)
3) Is Lady's Dream considered porous?
4) I bought Marbamist cleaner for weekly or biweekly cleaning. Is that a good idea? I plan to just use soap and water on a daily basis, correct?

I'm going to say use the solvent base product, but I'm not an authority on the subject. Others will correct me. :)

I am an authority on another thing, though. Use a neutral cleaner, not a soap, to do the routine cleaning on your stone counters (and other surfaces). It happens we make a good one that is available in our store. :)

1. You don’t HAVE to use the same product, but since you are fortunate enough to know what was used, it’s best. No chance for incompatibility issues.
2. Get it from the fabricator.
3. I don’t know. Lady’s Dream is a new name (to me), probably for a popular stone that we all know. I bet someone thought “Lady’s Dream” sounded more marketable than the REAL name. :rolleyes:
4. No soap. It will streak and leave a dirt attracting residue.

Lady's Dream is a gneiss from India. Has several names, all the stuff we sold has been to the ladys though.

I'm curious about gneiss... is that not a granite?.. Is it considered porous? I poked around on the web about gneiss and will go back and read about some more. My granite is also known as Amber Fantasy, I've read.

No more soap for me... Thanks... I'm not that smart but I know to listen to others that are more knowledgeable than me...

I am having some other issues that I posted in the Tile Forum.

I've read that it is important to seal it with the exact same sealer as the fabricator... As i may have other issues with him (see the Tile Forum) can i use any solvent based sealer or should I get the sealer from him?

Dear Joel:
No, it's not granite: it's gneiss: a totally different stone. But that's the way it goes in the stone industry, although it's illegal! :rolleyes:
It's very porous, too. :(
If you must switch impregnator do NOT use another solvent-carried one!! Serious compatibility problems could arise only with different solvent-carried brands. If you use a water carried one instead, the only problem you could have by switching is that the new product may not perform at its best. ;)
