Mukilteo's first Rosehill School was a grand architectural structure erected in 1893. It was destroyed by fire in 1928. The year of this photo is unknown. (Mukilteo Historical Society) |
Welcome, friends. In July, 2000, while visiting my brother and sister who live at Port Susan (10 miles west of Marysville, WA), I decided to take my family on a side trip to Mukilteo. After checking out the ferry landing and the lighthouse, I looked up the hill and discovered that the old Rosehill Junior High building was still standing. (I was a member of Rosehill's last graduating class in the fifties.)
Not only is the building still there, but it's still in use. It now houses the Mukilteo Community Center. I was able to tour the interior of the building, and it brought back such strong memories that I published an article in the Mukilteo Beacon recounting the experience. I named a few of my former classmates hoping someone who might remember me still lived in the area.
I got an email from Mike Kimball, whose dad was principal of Rosehill, and Mike gave me Ann (Lewis) Purnell's email address. Ann is one of the people who headed up the Everett High class reunion. She was gracious enough to send about fifteen addresses of former Mukilteo students whom I remember and have mailed letters to (snail mail, I'm afraid).
Also on Ann's list are about twenty other names of people I don't remember (the boys apparently didn't warm the bench with me during basketball games, and the girls apparently weren't in the choir). I'm sending letters to them also and hope they will respond. I swear, some days it's all I can do to remember my own name.
And that's how we got here. At this point, where we go is the question. I hope the message board is used. Bios, life stories, anecdotes, memories, families, experiences -- well, I think you get the picture. It's been 45 years since the last class graduated from Rosehill. A lot has happened during that time. It should be interesting -- maybe even exciting. Please share your experiences with us.
You don't have to be a former Rosehill student to use the board, but contributions should relate to Rosehill Junior High, Everett High or the Snohomish County area.

I have recently been informed that in the fifties I went by my middle name, Pat (Patrick). I have become convinced that this is the case by a number of people (everyone, for that matter), and I accept it. Guess I just forgot.

(Come to think of it, that's how I signed my social security card, which I still have. Got it when I was fourteen.)
So far I have exchanged emails with four Rosehill classmates: Mike Kimball, Ann (Lewis) Purnell, Bill Fox and Arlene (Anderson) Blechschmidt. I wish there were more, but I am extremely happy to be re-acquainted with the four. We'll keep in touch, hoping more will join us before long.

Last evening I heard from Susan (Baker) Pedersen who told me she's been having trouble getting on the site. I hope it's not hard for anyone else. It's a business site, and it's up and running constantly. It's great to here from Susan. Check out her post on the forum.

In May, 2001 I deactivated the old Rosehill Forum and designated a new one at http://www.johnbridge.com/vbulletin/index.php?forumid=2 The old forum was a mess -- kept breaking down, and it was difficult to use. The new one is much more efficient.
