The Jungle Page 1 Next Home Return to Civilization
| My "jungle" began its
evolution in the spring of 1998 when I built the enclosed deck area at
the side of my house. My wife and I were happy with the result but
realized we'd need a potted plant or two to offset the starkness of all
the new wood. My wife's sister came to our aid with the donation
of a five-foot potted ficus tree (ficus benjamina). That ficus looked awfully lonely sitting there, and it wasn't long before I began buying (rescuing) plants to keep it company. One thing followed another, and now in the spring of 2000 we have about 100 containers scattered over about 350 sq. ft. of space. The view at right looks through the front gate I built so neighbors could more easily access the area. |
