The West Side's three best designers
(Home)John P. Bridge
Some of the homes I've worked on have had more than one interior designer (decorator). In fact, show homes often have a designer for each area of the house. There are kitchen designers, bath designers, living area designers and others. These are the people who coordinate what you see in a finished (and furnished) home. I've worked closely with scores of them through the years.
I defer to the designer in all things aesthetic -- color, texture, mood, tone, etc. My business is seeing to the mechanics of the job. Things must be flat, plumb, centered, clean looking and generally done in a workmanlike manner. Plane geometry governs my progress, while art dictates to the designer.
Do you need a designer? No, not always. But can you benefit from having one around? Yes, always. At my house I've been the designer for years, and you ought to see the clutter. I re-did a bathroom years ago that I have every year since threatened to tear out because I introduced too much blue, which is now sickening. At one point I had two layers of tile already in my entryway when I wanted to install a third. (Had to tear out the first two.) At best, my interior design modus could be described as eclectic.
I am about to list three interior designers with whom I've worked on the west side of town. The three are what I would call general practitioners who will take into account all the little subtleties of the trade. They have the good grace to treat trades people as equals (which is why they've made it to my page), and they are also very personable in their relationships with clients. If you need a lot of help or just a little, call one of these gracious ladies.
