Three varieties of hybrid begonias. The one in front is very shy and hides its blooms beneath its leaves. One has to more or less pry the leaves out of the way in order to see the blossoms. |
| A huge caladium. The leaves are about a foot across. This one was "rescued" from Lowes home center. It won't make it through our hot summer unless I find some shade for it. Shade in the Jungle is becoming a scarce commodity, what with all the other shade lovers I've acquired. | ![]() |

This begonia is my wife's favorite because of its vivid colors. By carefully tending the begonias -- keeping them out of the sun when necessary and protecting from frost -- I have been able to keep them in bloom year-round. |
| Caladiums planted in the ground will usually die out at the height of our summer (90 to100 degrees in July and August). Keeping them in containers offers the advantage of "summering" them over. | ![]() |

The bougainvillea "Juanita" holds forth once again. Bougainvillea(s?) "bloom" best when there are about equal amounts of daylight and darkness, so twice a year we get a real show. What you are seeing are bracts of leaves. The actual flowers (within the bracts) are so small you can hardly see them. My "bougie" is about 4 feet tall. My neighbor has one like it in the ground that is taking over the place. |
I hope you have enjoyed my most recent update of the Jungle (May, 2000). I would be very interested in posting other people's plant pictures to my site. If you have something special, email me here or anywhere on the site. If you would like to see some close-ups of the bougainvillea and other plants, click here. Please be patient. Quality pics take time to load.
